Perhaps one of the most fascinating timepieces ever devised, the Rolling Ball Clock was patented by Sir William Congreve in 1808. (A copy of the original specification is included with each clock). The basic concept is that the ball takes 15 seconds to run down the zig-zag track where it trips the escapement which reverses the angle of the tray and cause the clock hands to move forward correspondingly. The clock is supplied with a mahogany framed glass case.

    :

I bought a Congreve Rolling Ball Clock from Devon Clocks in 1988, and it has run continuously ever since. It is a beautiful and fascinating instrument which arouses great interest and curiosity from young and old alike. The movement is hypnotic and intriguing.

I have recently serviced one of these clocks, servicing was very easy. This clock is extremely well built and heavy, it comes apart easily. And of course it never gets boring watching that ball roll back and forth. It is an amazing time piece and a pleasure to work on!
